83% Of Moviegoers Happy With Hollywood

December 6th, 2006 in Box Office, Movies -

The Motion Picture Association of America are always panicking about attendances (they must not have heard about my traveling 30 minutes to a mall in the middle of nowhere only to find that Borat sold out – I’ve since discovered the joys of Fandango).

To reassure themselves, the MPAA periodically perform surveys. The most recent polled 2,000 moviegoers across 9 international cities, and here’s what they found:

  • 83% are satisfied with the quality of current films
  • 58% go to the movies regularly
  • 7% patronize films heavily (as opposed to Ron Howard films, which patronize audiences heavily)
  • 86% would go more regularly if ticket prices were cut in half

Good news for the MPAA then, but not such good news for film-lovers. How can 83% of people be satisfied with an industry that dumped The Nativity Story, Turistas and Van Wilder 2 on them all in the same week?
