My Super Ex-Girlfriend DVD Review: It was easier when they just keyed your car.
Have you ever had to break up with a girl (or guy) because they were a little unstable, only to find out they really weren’t ready to let you go? Now imagine if they had super strength and could fly. Scary, huh? And you thought your ex was psycho. This is pretty much the premise to My Super Ex-Girlfriend.
Matt Saunders (Luke Wilson) is a man who has been single for six months and is being pushed back into the dating scene by his best friend Vaughn, played by the Rainn Wilson (Dwight from The Office). Vaughn talks him into hitting on a nerdy looking girl on the subway who happens to be the local superhero. He soon finds out the obvious pros and the not-so-obvious cons to dating someone who has the ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound. It’s not as cool as it sounds.
What I like about this movie is the way they incorporate the whole superhero idea into realistic situations. It’s not at all like Superman where the super villains are unreal and the city they live in is straight out of a comic book. If we actually had some kind of hero amongst us, I’d imagine he/she would be a lot like this. She is insecure, lonely, career-minded, and also sexually frustrated. Luke Wilson is great. Uma Thurman is fantastic. Rainn Wilson is hilarious. You should see the movie. Don’t let the corny sounding title drive you away.
