Ewan McGregor To Play Kurt Cobain?
Courtney Love has bought the film rights to Heavier Than Heaven, the Kurt Cobain biography written by Charles Cross. The Nirvana frontman’s widow confirmed the film was in an embryonic stage, but happening.
“It has no script and no director attached, but if the movie is made it will of course be an A list and high end film.”
The Daily Express are quoting a “source” who says that Love has already handpicked Ewan McGregor to play Cobain.
“A number of actors have been talked about for the role but Ewan has emerged as the number one choice. Despite being 35, he looks young enough to play him.”
I’m sure McGregor would do a good job, but does he really look young enough? Cobain passed away in his late twenties, but McGregor will surely struggle with those early rise-to-fame days. My feeling for a Cobain biopic has always been that a talented unknown or lesser known actor would be the better choice.

Ewan… as Cobain??? Mo wayy.. I think Johnny Depp woudl be perfect as Cobain… not insulting Ewans acting capababilitys… I adore him also, but Depp is the better suited for the part….

Ewans is a great actor,i think it is a good choice. I only hope that this movie is much better than Last Days was. That movie made me ill.

Go on youtube and search ‘velvet goldmine’, ewans performances in that were great. He played a iggy pop character, ewan would be great as kurt cobain, he is such versatile actor.

This is just a rumor presently, and Ewan is Courtney’s choice– that doesn’t mean he’ll end up there. Courtney should spend more time with her NA sponsor and her daughter instead of continuing to find ways to profit yet again off her late husband. My concern for this film being good or not really has to be held off until they announce a director…

I think ewan is a 50/50 choice because with long blonde hair he looks the double of cobain but he wont be able to get voice right (not Kurts singng voice,his talking voice)

I think Jared Letto should play Kurt. I know he’s doing more music now, but I think he would be a great choice.

Actually there were talks years ago about a movie concerning Kurt. Jared Letto had agreed to it. I love Johnny Depp. He is one of my favs, but when it comes to Kurt, I just don’t feel he fits it. Maybe an unknown would be could. That way we have no preconceived notions of the guy. It’s gonna take a hell of a guy to pull this off.
Although both Ewan and Johnny would play ok Cobains, I think the best man for the role is Jared Leto. He is in a rock band so he can relate to that and he also acted in My So-Called Life, playing the flannel-wearing grunge kid. Makes sense to me.

they have been talking about making this movie forever! Personally I think Ewan would be great however at the pace they are moving on getting the film going Ewan and everyone and everyone else will be dead. Get moving on it already! Would be a good film.

While I think Ewan can do the job, I can’t believe no one has mentioned Joe Anderson! (Across the universe,Silence Becomes You) when I first saw him in Across the Universe, I saw the uncanny resembalence. Not only dies he look like Kurt Cobain but he has the pipes to pull it off as well.
No offense to Courtney, but Ewan was not the greatest choice. I think Joe Anderson who played Max in ‘Across the Universe’ would be a better choice than Ewan.
