Hoffman Lined Up For Charlie Kaufman’s Directorial Debut

On January 11th, 2007

Seems a long time coming but everyone’s favourite screenwriter Charlie Kaufman is finally limbering up for his directorial debut.

The Being John Malkovich, Adaptation and Eternal Sunshine of the Whatsitcalled writer will direct Synecdoche, New York from his own screenplay, obviously. It’s about an ambitious theater director who builds a replica of New York City inside a warehouse, so the regular mundane stuff we’ve come to expect from Kaufman.

Philip Seymour Hoffman is set to play the director, while Catherine Keener, Michelle Williams, Samantha Morton will play his wives and lovers, Tilda Swinton his best friend.

Kaufman hasn’t disappointed us yet (unless you count Human Nature) so let’s hope he’s as good behind the camera as he is, er, even further behind the camera.
