The Texas Chainsaw Massacre- The Beginning DVD Review: The Remix

On January 16th, 2007

The BeginningOccasionally in the music business, a producer will take an already popular song and re-release it with additional lyrics or additional performers and call it a remix. This entire movie was just a remix of the original. They should have called P. Diddy.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning is not only a long title, but its a long waste of time. If you’ve seen the first one, you already know the plot:

A group of teenagers on a road trip to -fill in blank- must make an unscheduled stop in the middle of nowhere due to -fill in blank-. While looking for help, a member of the group becomes missing. Now their quest for some neighborly help has turned into a desperate search for a lost friend. One by one, the teenagers are abducted, tortured, and killed by a psychotic family and their seriously disturbed son.

I just gave the synopisis for two movies. The only glimpse of originality from this movie comes from Sheriff Hoyt, played by the immortal R. Lee Ermy of Full Metal Jacket fame. He has a larger part in this movie than he did in the first one and often upstages Leatherface himself. Like Mrs. Voorhies in Friday The 13th, he takes control of most of the insanity.

Final thoughts: If you’re seen the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, avoid this one at all costs. If you haven’t seen it, go rent it, then avoid The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning at all costs.
