Goonies II and Gremlins III – Direct to DVD

February 7th, 2007 in DVD, Movies -

Goonie II (video game)Terrible terrible news I read this morning involves two of my favourite films being exploited for a quick buck by Warner Bros. Apparently they’re planning a direct to DVD release of The Goonies II and Gremlins III.

Actually, I could take or leave another Gremlins sequel, but The Goonies? That’s sacred.

There were rumours that a sequel would involved catching up with the original gang (and original cast) and having them re-unite as adults, which was risky, but interesting. Even the title – Goonies Never Say Die – was good.

However, once a studio decides on a direct to DVD approach standards officially plumet. Expact a fresh bunch of kids having similar to the original but not quite as good adventures, some shoddy bargain CGI and my childhood memories exploited before my eyes when I break down and buy it anyway.
