Geico Caveman To Get Sit-Com?
Turns out getting a sit-com is so easy, even a caveman can do it. But enough about Jim Belushi. ABC have comissioned a sit-com pilot starring the cavemen from those funny(ish) Geico commercials, to be written by the ad copywriter who wrote the ads. Good for him.
According to ABC the show will feature the cavemen from the ads who “struggle with prejudice on a daily basis as they strive to live the lives of normal thirty-somethings in 2007 Atlanta.”
It’s very easy to be cynical about this, because the ads have been in heavy rotation and are frankly getting old. But let’s suspend judgement. Because if the characters can be fleshed out a little and not just be one-joke stretched out over 30 minutes this will at least be something a little different, as opposed to another show about a slovenly husband and his hot wife who argue a lot for comedic effect.
But please please please ABC don’t slap a laugh track on it.

“…and not just be one-joke stretched out over 30 minutes…”
That’s what most sit-coms are anyway… one stretched out joke.
They made Dinosaurs work for a few years. This one could work too if they don’t try too hard to be to “edgy”… I don’t see cavemen being edgy…
I am friendly with the wife of one of these cavemen…needless to say, they’re funny, but a sitcom won’t last.
I think a sitcom would be great as long as it is written very intelligently. Get the writers of Frasier or Seinfeld to help out. Then it could be a hit.
