David Yates, who is set to make his Harry Potter series directorial debut July 13, has revealed that he will also be sticking around to film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. In doing so, Yates will be only the second director in the Harry Potter film series to direct more than one of the films.

Chris Columbus kicked off the series by directing the first two films, but since then the series has seen multiple directors. Alfonso Cuaron directed Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and Mike Newell took the reins with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Yates’ Harry Potter premiere takes place July 13 with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which opens only days before the release of the final book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

“I’m doing ‘Half-Blood Prince,’ and I’m doing it because I love the world, I love the characters. I think I have more business with this world and these characters,” said Yates.

The fifth installment in the Harry Potter franchise will star all of the series regulars, including Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.

David Yates is the worst person to do HBP. He did an appaling job on OOTP (not the actual film as such, just the way he related to the book, missing out too many key storylines etc. If he does it the same way as OOTP then I will be absolutely gutted.
P.S He wont even bring back Christian Coulson in HBP who was Tom Riddle in COS because he is older than the rest of the actors.

i agree with Harry Saxon. I was very dissapoint wth OOTP and he did miss some key point in it and I vry much hope he soedn’t miss it here… Like the KISS and QUIDDITCH….. I luv the HP books and moies, but i think he wanted it to make it dark and tried it to be funny like GOF but that didn’t work…. And I wanted to see Christian Coulson, i think he’s cute….^_^

i love the harry potter films, but the fifth has to be the worst. it was missing so many key points. i think that the best movie so far is the chamber of secrets. but still i can’t wait for the half blood prince and the deathly hallows.

I totally agree with Harry Saxon too many scenes were missed out and also he did things in a different order to the book which was really confusing.
I think the books are better than the movies although i deffinatly wont want to miss the next one especially the Kiss scene with Harry and Ginny.

I think David yates is doing a great job. He can’t put every little thing in the movies! it would be like three hours long! not to mention how long it would take to actually make it. And as for Christian Coulson, even though he is GORGEOUS, he is way too old to play an eleven year old boy. the only thing i was dissapointed about was that in the 5th movie there wasnt any quidditch, but there will be in the 6th one. I can’t wait to see it!!

i agree with some of you the 5th film was the worst i personally like prisoner of Azkaban. the movies are about 3 hrs and he did miss so many things i hope they do a better job on hbp. and Christian Coulson would not be playing an eleven year but a 16-17 year old because that’s when he asks slughorn.

    Hey!
I think david Yates is not the right person to direct this series. He missed the most awaited moments and the most precious memories in the 6th film. How can he think that any Harry Potter fan will like the movie. The mystery of Dumbledore, his dialogues and his death were very much precious scenes as well as the memories of Voldemort. But all in vain. You disappointed a lot of fans. Let the 7th film be directed by someone who is himself a die hard fan of Harry Potter Series so that he can assume audiences’ vision.

Be specific. It was not a comedy script.

    david yates sucks
he ruined hbp.like where’s the big fight in hogwarts when dumbledore died and where is the funeral and like 35 out of the 36 chapters of the book
    all gone
it’s like two an a half hours cuz he only focused on the boring or annoying parts
the kiss was like two seconds
i prefer the kiss in the psp game which they didnt even want to show us
    david yates sucks

David Yates ruined the Harry Potter movies! We now missed out on what could have been 2 great films in the series but now they are the worst! I can’t believe he’s doing 2 more films on the 7th book! What a waist!
