Mike Myers to Receive “MTV Generation Award”
The 2007 MTV Movie Awards are set to air this Sunday evening, where the shagadelic Mike Myers is set to be awarded with the prestigious “MTV Generation Award.” The “MTV Generation Award” is the MTV Movie Awards’ highest honor, and one that is not bestowed often.
Recipients of the “MTV Generation Award” are actors or actresses who have captured the attention of the MTV audience throughout their career. Mike Myers has certainly accomplished that many times over, having first burst on to the scene in 1992 with his first major screen role in Wayne’s World.
Mike Myers, one of the most multifaceted performers of his generation, has brought a distinct array of characters to life on both film and television. For his groundbreaking work on “Saturday Night Live,” Myers was nominated for an Emmy for “Best Performance in a Comedy or Variety Show” and won an Emmy for “Best Writing for Comedy or Variety Show.”
Myers successfully brought his popular SNL character, Wayne Campbell, to the big screen in 1992 with “Wayne’s World,” followed a year later with “Wayne’s World 2″. On the heels of the “Wayne’s World” empire, Myers appeared in a range of films including “54,” for which he earned critical acclaim. In 1997, Myers wrote, produced, and starred in his first of three Austin Power’s films, “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.” This was followed in 1999 by “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” and in 2002 by “Austin Powers in Goldmember”. Additionally, Myers is recognized as the lead voice in the 2001 Dreamworks animated feature “Shrek.” The tale continued in 2004 with “Shrek 2,” and the third installment, “Shrek the Third” can now be seen in theatres nationwide.
On winning the award, Myers said: “From performing, to hosting, to winning the desirable golden bucket of popcorn, I’ve accomplished it all at the MTV Movie Awards. The only thing I had left to do was win the MTV Generation Award and now I’m set. Thank you, MTV.â€
Past recipients of the “MTV Generation Award” include Jim Carrey and Tom Cruise. The 2007 MTV Movie Awards will air live on June 3rd at 8:00PM EST from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.
