Lawrence Kasdan’s celebrated 1983 film The Big Chill is set to be re-made, but this time it will sport one major difference- an African-American cast. The movie is likely to get retitled, but will utilize the original script as a general template for a more contemporary take on the story.

In the original film, we followed seven college friends uniting over a weekend at a South Carolina house for the funeral of a friend. As the friends got reacquainted, they became introspective about how their lives turned out.

The re-make of the film will have the friends bond in the 1990′s era and meet again in modern day time. The music will also be updated, but will also still feature some Motown classics.

Lawrence Kasdan will not be involved in the remake, but actress Regina King will serve as both a producer and one of the film’s stars. Currently, a writer and director are being sought in the hopes that production can begin before the end of the year.
