Hooray for Bollywood! In an attempt to bring greater international recognition to films coming out of the Mumbai based studios, the International Indian Film Awards were held in Sheffield, England.

The big winner was Rang De Basanti (Paint it Saffron), winner of Best Picture among its many awards. Hrithik Roshan won Best Actor for Krrish, said to be India first superhero movie. The Best Actress was Rani Mukherji for the film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kahna (Never Say Goodbye). Possibly the best known name associated with Indian film, Aishwarya Rai, won for most glamorous lead actress. One of Rai’s more recent films, Provoked was written about here at ScreenHead earlier, and is making the art and independent film circuit.

For those unfamiliar with typical Bollywood films, yes they are long, usually clocking in at three hours. Many are now available on DVD, and also include a feature that allows the viewer to just see the musical numbers which are usually the best part of the film. Maybe in we’re lucky, the next Oscar show will feature Bipasha Pasu, seen in the above photo.
