The Scoop on the Grindhouse DVD

On June 12th, 2007

If you missed the Grindhouse double-feature at theaters, featuring Planet Terror and Death Proof, you’ll still have the chance to view them on DVD. But unfortunately, if you were hoping to snag them as a box-set, you might have to wait a lot longer. According to Davis DVD, both Grindhouse films will be released on DVD, but seperately. Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof will be the first of the pair to hit DVD, arriving September 18th through Genius Entertainment and The Weinstein Co.

I guess it can’t come as too much of a surprise that they would seperate the two films. But I do think that in time, they will release a special edition DVD collector set so real fans of the films can get the full theater experience. It would make sense for several reasons, with the most important reason to the studios being that it would help maximize sales.

A special edition box set would make sense, but then we’ve been promised a Kill Bill special edition box set with the film treated as one long movie (the cut shown in Cannes in 2004), and where the hell is that? Miramax and QT are all talk and little delivery these days

I wonder which DVD will contain the trailers. Will they be split up? On both?

so what if the film tanked?
it was poorly marketed and as soon as people saw rose mcgowan with a gun for a leg they totally thought the movie was shite and balked. Couldnt the weinsteins have learned from the dvd cult status of films like fight club, that did poorly in theaters and then went on to have phenomenal dvd sales?
    jesus christ

Peter – from what I have read, neither DVD contains the trailers. If this is true it really sucks.

What happened to the “fake trailers?” I was extremely disappointed not to have those in their. It was part of the movie and I think they robbed it of it’s authenticity. They should have left the movie exactly as the way it was in theaters.

I missed the film at the theater and now I suppose I won’t be getting a chance to see it in its original format! That’s what bugs me. I know Tarantino and Rodriguez put the two films together for a purpose and anyone who didn’t see it in theaters won’t get the full experience. I’ve always been a fan of Tarantino’s but after this I’m beginning to think that he is not very concerned about his fans anymore.

Saw the double bill as meant to be seen at the Prince Charles last saturday. It was introduced by director Edgar Wright ( he directed one of the trailers) he mention that it would be getting a proper DVD release next month.

regards the way “it was in the theatres” it only had limited viewings in that format, the reaction from inital audiences was so negaitive, the movie companies panicked. its only had two shoings in the UK one at a festival in glasgow and the other at the Prince Charles.

Yes, it is a pain in the ***. I don’t understand this. I’m a big fan of QT but he or the production company makes always a big fuzz of the DVDs. KILL BILL, was only available in the japanese special edition, with the fight scene in COLOR. That box cost me around 100 Bucks. Then Grindhouse ALSO only in the japanese edition 6discs with the extended cut, the fake trailers, great DVD, but again only Japan, what the hell? That box cost me again around 80 bucks or so. Now I was waiting for Inglorious Basterds, and it looks like same thing happen again. In the US there’s no real special collector edition. I found one in Amazon Germany and will buy it there. QT you really have to talk to your studios!!!
