New “Street Fighter” Movie in the Works!

On September 6th, 2007

The classic and well-known video game Street Fighter will soon be finding its way to the big screen, courtesy of Hyde Park Entertainment and Capcom (makers of the original game).  This won’t be the first film adaptation of the game; one was made back in 1994 starring Jean Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia.   But, the newest incarnation will likely be aimed at the new generation – Generation Y / the Millennials, or whatever the heck they call us post-Gen Xers these days.

The focus of the latest Street Fighter movie will shift as well, with most of the attention directed at the character of Chun Li and her fight for justice.  Andrzej Bartkowiak has been choosen to direct the film, which will be live-action and not animated, and Fox will eventually distribute it.

Filming is set to begin sometime next year, and most likely sooner rather than later.  You know, everyone’s trying to make their film before next summer’s potential actors’ strike.
