NYC Gets a New Short Film Fest: Tropfest@Tribeca

On September 17th, 2007

Tropfest began in Australia in 1993, and quickly became the world’s largest short film festival.  Now, Tropfest is taking New York City by storm, with the first Tropfest in America being held this weekend in NYC.

Tropfest@Tribeca is a free outdoor short film festival, and will launch this Sunday, September 23rd.  At the fest, 16 films specifically made for the festival will premiere.

Based off the Tropfest in Australia, which can draw upwards of 150,000 people in just one night, this festival is said to have the same energy as a music festival. The festival kicks off at 5pm with live musical performances, and films beginning at 8pm.  To find out more about the musical acts and films being shown, visit the fest’s official website.

With summer nearing its end and the warm days becoming far and few between, Tropfest looks to be a perfect end-of-summer outing.
