Sixty minus one equals fifty-nine songs considered for the Oscar at the 80th Academy Awards. “Into the Wild,” “Hairspray,” “August Rush,” “Walk Hard,” “Music & Lyrics,” “Enchanted, and “Dan in Real Life” are some of the film contending for best songs.

Academy of Motion Picture and Sciences whittles the fifty-nine sounds down to three, four or five songs on Jan. 15. The screen clips featuring each song will be shown in random order, for voting members of the Music Branch in Beverly Hills and New York City.
