What if a raging storm collided with high tides to unleash a colossal tidal surge? In the new “Flood” miniseries premiering this month on ION, it does, and it causes the River Thames to rise to unprecedented levels, overwhelming barriers designed to keep the city of London safe and dry. And as millions of lives hang in the balance, three experts – a top marine engineer, his ex-wire, and his father – face against time to save the city of London, which is on the brink of complete annihilation.

With rising sea levels, intensifying storms, global warming, and horrific natural disasters dominating the headlines on an almost daily basis, “Flood” takes viewers right to the middle of a catastrophe that seems completely unimaginable, yet all too possible in today’s world.

The series was shot over the course of eleven weeks in South Africa, and over two weeks on location in London itself. For the ultimate in realism, production of the film included over 30 tons of water, 27 sets with water, and four large water tanks – all combined with CG special effects. Directed by Tony Mitchell, “Flood” is based off the best-selling novel of the same name by Richard Doyle, the grand-nepher of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

To gear up for the series’ premiere on December 16th at 7/6C, we’re giving away one DVD of another great natural disaster movie – “Killerwave.” To be eligible to win, leave a comment on this post. Make sure you leave it with your email address, and we will contact you via email if you are chosen as the randomly picked winner. To be eligible, you must live in the US or Canada.

In the meantime, check out the “Flood” trailer below:
