Prince of Persia Video Game to be Made into Movie

Jerry Bruckheimer taught us that yes you can in fact turn a theme park ride into a good movie with the success of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, and now, he’s set out to debunk a similar problem plaguing the video game-to-movie arena.  Bruckheimer is taking the popular video game “Prince of Persia” and aims to prove that videos can be made into good movies as well.

“It’s a game that was brought to us early on, and I thought it was very exciting. First of all, it’s an interesting period and it’s something that other people weren’t doing. So I always like to go into arenas that other filmmakers aren’t in. I think it’s the 8th or 9th century but you know, that could change, too. We might change it a little. It’ll definitely be a period film. We’re not going to make it contemporary,” said Bruckheimer.

Directing the film adaptation will be Mike Newell, who did one of the Harry Potter films and Donnie Brasco.   He is expected to “bring something really special to it.”
Meanwhile, the script hasn’t yet been finalized, but they still have time to kill.  The film isn’t set to be filmed until June, and Bruckheimer is hoping that the writers will be able to wrap up their strike by then.  But even still, he might have to worry about a possible Screen Actors Guild strike, as their contracts expire next summer.

Generally speaking, I don’t think it’s a good idea to adapt video games to movies. There’s built-in marketing, of course, but they’re rarely any good.

I dont think that Orlando Bloom is a good choise, he dont have the look of the Prince, and the story that they want to put on the screen is not the real one. I LOVE the game, but if they do that, its not the real story of the game.

games do not make good movies. If and only if the dirctor follows the story line without going off subject will I go see it. But I’m going to see it anyway.

k obviously everyone here has forgotten tomb raider. that was a video game for years and then they made it into a movie and then because it did well they even made a sequel. i think the same will happen with the prince of persia. i dont think it will win an oscar or anything but i think it will be a pretty good movie.

o and orlando bloom will do fine because he played a similar role in the kingdom of heaven. he was a knight and the leader of israel during the crusades and his character in that was pretty much the same as the prince of persia. and he has been in lord of the rings, pirates of the carabean, the kingdom of heaven, and troy and they were all good movies.

It has a compelling and well written story line. Playing through it is truly a joy.
