Shirley MacLaine Plays Designer Icon

On December 21st, 2007

maclaine_shirley.jpgCable television, Lifetime, is orchestrating “Coco Chanel,” a miniseries with Shirley MacLaine as the fashion icon in her later years when she re-established her status as a fashion trendsetter.

Barbora Bobulova plays the younger Chanel.

Two-part mini will run in 2008 on Lifetime.

Enrico Medioli (“Once Upon a Time in America“) wrote the script that follows the climb of Chanel, starting with her rearing in an orphanage outside Paris. Mini actually opens with Chanel’s move to reinvent herself in her 70s, after spending years in exile.

I am sure MacLaine will channel the role beautifully with all the charisma Coco Chanel designs.

Apparently, the movie is a love story about rags to riches with a strong social statement about women and the changing of worldviews.

Chanel died in 1971 and was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people of the 20th century.

I am excited about seeing MacLaine playing such an icon. I wonder if she ever met her.
