On January 16th, 2008

wgastrike1.jpgAccording to “Entertainment Weekly’s Strike Survey” (a nationwide poll commissioned by America’s leading consumer magazine of entertainment and popular culture), men and women across the board are looking beyond Hollywood – and away from the silver screen — to keep themselves entertained:

      • Nearly half (44%) have been watching less TV;
      • 40% have been reading more books;
      • 39% have been watching more re-runs
      • 38% have been watching more DVDs;
      • 36% are listening to more music;
      • 34% are watching more news programming;
      • 27% are getting more sleep;
      • 23% are going online more;
      • 21% are reading more magazines;
      • 19% are watching more On-Demand television and movies;
      • 18% are watching more reality TV;
      • 12% are watching more late night TV;
      • 10% are going to the movies more;
      • 9% are spending more money on entertainment;
      • 9% are having more sex;
      • and 4% are fighting with their spouse more.

With the strike in mind, the national survey also asked Americans if they knew what the acronym WGA stood for. Surprisingly, only 34% of Americans could correctly identify the WGA as the Writer’s Guild of America. In fact, 20% of those surveyed believed the WGA was a women’s professional golf association!
