The Academy Says: The Show Must Go On!

January 17th, 2008 in Awards, Movie News -

oscarsgoto.pngEnding weeks of speculation, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has announced that this year’s Oscars will go on regardless of the writer’s strike.  At this time, the AMPAS is planning two ceremonies.  The first would maintain the show’s normal level of glitz and glamour, and would be held if the strike ends before February 24.  If the strike goes beyond that date, they have a second option that they’ll be planning, which is much more picket-friendly and would “likely … rely on industry heavyweights penning their own speeches and present the awards.”

While everyone is hoping for the traditional, over-the-top ceremony to take place, we may end up having to settle for something similar to the Golden Globes’ press conference type ceremony.
