Weinstein Co. Picks Up Woody Allen’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”

The Weinstein Co. has picked up North American distribution rights to Woody Allen’s latest film, “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”, a romantic comedy/drama starring Penelope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson, Javier Bardem, Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Kevin Dunn, and Rebecca Hall.
The film tells the tale of Vicky and Christina, two Americans vacationing in Barcelona, who become part of a chain of romances involving an artist and his crazy ex-wife. When the film previewed in Santa Monica in November, a steamy menage a trios scene between Bardem, Cruz, and Johansson was the talk of the town.
“Vicky Cristina Barcelona”, which is scheduled for a 2008 release, marks Woody Allen’s sixth partnership with Bob and Harvey Weinstein.
Scarlett Johansson will have steady work as long as Woody Allen is alive.
