Oscars Excitement Arrives
The Oscars are little over 24 hours away, and I highly recommend you go to the official Oscar web site. There you can view all the information, trivia and highlights of the 80th Academy Awards. Who do you pick to win?
These are my choices:
Best Film — Michael Clayton
Best Director — Tony Gilroy
Best Actor — Daniel Day Lewis
Best Actress — Julie Christie
Best Supporting Actress — Ruby Dee
Best Supporting Actor — Javier Barham
Michael Clayton over No Country and Blood? Gilroy over Schnabel and the Coens? Care to elaborate?
Also Ruby Dee for support? She’s in the movie for about 3 minutes and strikes the same note over and over. Her performance makes Judi Dench’s role in Shakespeare in Love look like a lead! I’d place Blanchett as Bob or Saoirse Ronan way above Dee.

Sure. It’s a standard movie that delivers well. Ruby Dee will get the Oscar because of her career not display. I could be off but it’s a pick. Some of the picks we agree, yes?

I think the world is in agreement that Daniel Day Lewsi deserves the award. I’d personally like to see Casey Affleck win for Jesse James, as his character had more depth, but I’d be happy if (when) Javier wins. Hell, ever actor in the Best Support category was amazing.
Yes, they were all good. I just don’t think the Coen brothers win in the Oscar. The Academy awards Oscars in a different fashion. Many times it’s based on a person’s career or lack of winning a earlier time.
“Juno” winning the Spirit Award is great news. It’s an excellent movie with new talent.
But surely the Coens are valid for winning an Oscar for both of your criteria. They’ve been making mostly quality movies since the 80s, and haven’t been recognised, PLUS Fargo deserved a few more Oscars. Way more than Gilroy, who is really just a writer.
Okay. What about Anderson for “Blood.” He’s been making cutting edge movies for a long time as well. He deserves to win too.
