Roland Emmerich’s apocalyptic thriller “2012,” based on the end days of human civilization as foretold by ancient Mayan calendar, nabbed John Cusack to star.

As a true Emmerich film, the story blasts off with a global cataclysm, this brings an end to the world as we know it, and chronicles the heroic struggle of the survivors.

Shooting should begin in July in Los Angeles, barring a SAG strike.
