Known best for creating the legendary Buffy series, Joss Whedon has abandoned plans to make horror fantasy Goners at Universal Pictures, instead opting to focus on Cabin in the Woods.

Drew Goddard, who co-wrote the script with Whedon, revealed the news to MTV, adding that "it’s genius, it’s funny… It’s got a harder and darker edge, but it’s also got classic Whedon qualities. It’ll rip out your heart out and be heartfelt at the same time."

The project is not attached to any studios yet, but Whedon himself is set to produce the film.
