Weaver Up for Alien Film

July 8th, 2008 in Actors, Sci-Fi, Sequels -

15578__04aliens_l Time changes everyone’s minds, and it seems to have played its magic on Sigourney Weaver, who having initially dismissing ideas of returning to the Alien franchise is now anticipating it.

"I would definitely do another if I had a director like Ridley Scott and we had a good idea," said Weaver to OK Magazine. "Ridley is enthusiastic about it."

Weaver is currently 58 years old, posing one important question: is she too old for the role?

No, she is not too old, even at 60. Ripley personified intellect and courage, characteristics unrelated to age. Sigourney Weaver has been a compelling and brilliant actor for decades. It’s no coincidence she was voted best action hero in a poll conducted by British cable channel Sky Movies (reported April 2009), beating out Schwarzenegger and Stallone.

She hasn’t always achieved the recognition she has deserved. She should have won an Academy Award for Best Actress for Aliens (she lost to Marlee Matlin in Children of a Lesser God). Because of the length of her career, many people are unfamiliar with a number of her fine performances, in addition to Alien and Aliens: for example, Gorillas in the Mist, Death and the Maiden, The Ice Storm, Imaginary Heroes.

I would love to see a sequel with Ripley working as a scientist, assuming she has a script and a director worthy of her intelligence and abilities. Ridley Scott would be perfect.
