‘Rashomon’ Remake
Akira Kurosawa 1950 Rashomon is set for remake mode with Harbor Light Entertai
nment and Lotus as an International Consortium.
The action of the story will move forward from ancient Japan to contemporary America where a court must decide the facts about the rape of a woman and the murder of her husband.
The plan is to release the remake in 2010 as part of the 100th anniversary celebration of Kursosawa’s birth.
I tend to avoid supporting remakes because they are never like the original. Again, I have to stress to these filmmakers. “Don’t call it a remake. Just make another movie that is similar.”

Make another movie that is similar? Like Disturbia and Rear Window, which is now facing a court case?
Anyway, the main problem is….. remaking Rashomon???? One of the greatest, most classic arthouse films of all time? From your description, it sounds like they’re taking a brilliant story on the impossibility of truth, and converting it into a bad episode of Law and Order.
I can understand them remaking big, popular films, but this is ridiculous. This is a sad day for cinema.
We just have too many lawyers :”).
Remaking Rashomon is like repainting a Van Gogh; it can’t be done.
Stories get told over and over, again, in Hollywood. Now, they even go to Broadway.
I was just saying that why promote it as a remake; why not just produce the film and leave the remake process behind the scenes.
