September 3rd, 2008 in Action, Directors, Movie News -

tarzan460 The Hollywood Reporter posted word that Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) is in negotiations with Warner Bros. to direct the reimagining of the classic Tarzan film franchise.

The script is being adapted by Stuart Beatie (Collateral) and Sommers himself, with Jerry Weintraub (Ocean’s Eleven) set to produce. The duo do not plan on working from the origina 1914 Burroughs tome or any previous films in the franchise, but take a fresh look at the Lord of the Apes.

Tarzan is a legendary franchise that has been adapted to the screen many times, with the most recent being a direct-to-video feature in 1998 with Casper van Dien and Disney’s 1999 animated film.
