McConaughey Not Magnum P.I.
MTV Movies reports that producer Brian Grazer has shot down rumors that Matthew McConaughey was offered the role of the title character in Magnum P.I.
Said Grazer: "No. I think the idea for ‘Magnum P.I.’ is to find a counterpoint. To not try and find the new Tom Selleck but to find someone that is just so different that you go, oh my God! That guy is Magnum?!?"
The remake is being penned by Rawson Thurber (Dodgeball), but the major hurdle right now is casting. The original ‘80s television series told the story of a private investigator living in Hawaii, solving cases and leaving a luxurious lifestyle.

You know, these Hollywood “geniuses” kill me.
If you don’t want the character/actor to be like Magnum,
then why are they making a Magnum movie?
(“Hey, let’s make Bonanza, but with cops and aliens!”)
The people who would be interested in seeing a Magnum movie are interested in seeing the Magnum character they know.
You change that, you change the movie…
and you change the audience. (or drive it away.)
This type of rework has rarely payed off.
Case in point, Starsky and Hutch.
(Show = good cop drama, movie = steaming pile.)
Hey, Grazer…
get CREATIVE and write your own P.I. story
and leave Magnum and Higgins out of it!
