Last year’s blockbuster hit I Am Legend is officially getting a prequel, according to actor Will Smith and writer D.B. Weiss. Speaking with Collider, Smith fleshed out the story, revealing that it will be about the last stand of Manhattan – the very last city in the world that is yet to be overrun by the creatures presented in the first film.

“The movie would be…within the body of the movie D.C. and then Manhattan would fall as the last city,” said Smith. “It’s a really cool idea trying to figure it out…there’s a reason why we have to take a small band and we have to get into D.C. So we have to make our way from New York to D.C. and then back to New York.”

The actor said that they are still working out the narrative kinks. No starting date for production was given.
