Production Weekly reports that Mark Romanek is set to direct the big-screen adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s 2005 novel Never Let Me Go. Ishiguro is also known for “Remains of the Day” and “When We Were Orphans” which was named one of TIME’s 100 Best Novels since 1923.

The story follows 31-year-old Kathy who was raised at Hailsham, a private school in the English countryside where children were sheltered from the outside world and were told their well-being was crucial for the dystopian society they would eventually enter. When two former Hailsham students come back into her life, they uncover the truth about their childhood and their lives.

The adaptation is being penned by Alex Garland (The Beach, 28 Days Later). No starting date was given.
