The Thing Prequel Gets Director

On January 16th, 2009

A bad idea in the making, Bloody Disgusting reports that Dutch helmer Matthijs van Heijningen is tipped to be the director of the prequel to John Carpenter’s classic The Thing.

In development at Strike and Universal Pictures, the film will see the lead character’s shoes being filled by the brother of the original’s lead character R.J. Macready (Kurt Russell).

The original followed an American scientific expedition to the Antarctic being terrorized by an alien life-form that can take over bodies.

Penned by Ronal D. Moore, the prequel will offer the Norwegian camp’s point of view.
