Warner Bros. Tom and Jerry

On January 22nd, 2009

Can Tom and Jerry be as popular as Alvin and the Chipmunks? Warner Bros. seems to think so because the studio is bringing the constantly warring cat and mouse to life as CG characters that run around in live-action settings.

According to Variety, the story idea is to adapt the classic Hanna-Barbera property as an origin story that reveals how Tom and Jerry first meet and form their rivalry before getting lost in Chicago and reluctantly working together during an arduous journey home.

Eric Gravning (B-Minor, Mr. Burnout, Class Act) is penning the script.

Tom and Jerry has a good chance of bringing in the profits based on the success of Alvin and the Chipmunks, which earned a $360 million worldwide with a production budget of $60 million.
