Best known for playing Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films, Michael Gambon is joining the cast of Book of Eli, joining Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman. He will play one half of a couple who hold on to old traditions in the futuristic tale.

The film will have Washington play a lone warrior who travels across a post-apocalyptic wasteland protecting a book that contains knowledge that will change the world.

The original story was written by Gary Whitta, but has been rewritten by Anthony Peckham. It is set for release on January 15, 2010.
