Watchmen Video Journal–Costuming

The next installment of the Watchmen Video Journal special deals with the film’s costuming.  You’d think this might be a narrow-interest sort of field; who’s really going to care outside of costume enthusiasts and fellow designers?  And while they’re definitely going to have an interest, there’s also a great deal for us to pick up.

Perhaps the biggest thing that the film will show us is that the costuming for the film had to go back almost eighty years, all the way back to the 1930s.  It’s not exactly self-congratulations for them to tell us that that takes a LOT of research.  Covering fully seven, nearly eight, decades of sartorial choices and styles is a lot of ground to cover, and so seeing the level of detail involved bodes well for the movie as a whole.

After seeing the set design video, and adding this one on to it, it looks as though if nothing else we can count on Watchmen to be a pretty authentic portrayal of the times and places.  Next time, we’ll be hitting the stunt work, and that should be a real doozy.
