Variety reports that New Regency has picked up futuristic action film Last Man.

Written by David Ayer – who also directs – the film follows a hardened captain assigned to protect an outpost on a distant planet. He has to lead a group of young, inexperienced soldiers in battle against an alien race.

Ayer is known for his work on Training Day and The Fast and the Furious. He will write the project after he finished Deep Sea Cowboys, a fact-based thriller being developed for DreamWorks.
