Education For Death Online Review–Disney Continues Its March To War

March 28th, 2009 in Animation, Movies, Reviews -

Apparently, Disney’s propaganda machine was just insanely busy back in the forties, because they made quite a few titles.  And one such title was Education For Death, the story of something called “Hitler’s Children”, I found on–where else?–YouTube.  I’m rapidly becoming convinced that YouTube is some kind of clearinghouse for just about every weird thing under the sun.

There are a surprisingly large amount of possibly unintentional laughs mixed in with the sheer creepy portrayal of a state run so wildly amok that it possesses the authority to forbid certain names for being used for children.

However, it would likely help if so much of the movie were incomprehensible unless you happen to be bilingual.  Large portions of the audio are presented in German, intermingled with English narration seemingly by way of explanation.  Frankly, as a way to get your ideas across, it’s a pretty poor quality piece.  Most Americans of the time probably wouldn’t have been caught dead speaking German, so they probably didn’t know what half the movie said.  Of course, the narration was a help, but the simple addition of subtitles probably would’ve made the whole proceedings much more effective.

Still though, it’s a piece of history…and a piece of history never to be forgotten.
