Jackie Online Review–Represents A Full Day’s Supply of Angst

March 21st, 2009 in Animation, Comedy, Movies, Reviews -

Well, congratulate me, folks–I may have seen the single most DEPRESSING cartoon on Newgrounds EVER.  It’s called Jackie, and it’s spectacularly depressing for a panoply of reasons.  Ready?  Here we go!

A young heroin addict (at least I’m guessing it’s heroin because she’s got to melt the stuff in a spoon before shooting herself up with it) gets thrown out of her cop boyfriend’s house for cheating on him.  She spends the night on a park bench, then gets a job as a stripper and goes through a whole host of depressing and occasionally disturbing events before reaching what is truly the single most spectacularly low point ever.  Just to give you an IDEA of this low point, the part that comes before it has a text crawl that reads “Jackie just stole 73 cents out of a dead guy’s pants. Her mother would be so proud.”

Like I said, that’s just the low point BEFORE the lowest point. I’ll leave that one to you.  The key take-away on this one is, you really should see Jackie, just to see how deep the rabbit hole can go.
