Lionsgates Aquires ‘The Hunger Games’

“Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer has praised “The Hunger Games,” a futuristic novel by Suzanne Collins that appeared 25 consecutive times on the New York Times bestseller.
Lionsgate has acquired feature rights of “The Hunger Games” and Collins will adapt her own novel, the first in a trilogy, was published in the fall. The story takes place in a culture in which districts pay tribute in the form of a teenage boy and girl who are forced to fight to the death on live TV.
The second installment, “Catching Fire,” will be on the book shelves in September.

I suppose it could be interestingly done, but it’s certainly not a new idea. Makes me think of films like The Running Man (and the original short story), Battle Royale and the like.
I am excited for this to be a feature! Mrs. Collins presents a wonderful story on how war effects those who are coming of age. A piece for our times. It makes one ponder how we are effecting our children. What are we going to do about it? I am glad that she will adapt it. That means we will get all the story line.
