Variety reports that Pete Segal (Get Smart, 50 First Dates) is the frontrunner to direct Little Fockers, the upcoming entry in the Fockers franchise, for Universal Pictures and Tribeca Productions.

Segal was lined up to helm the Get Smart sequel, but his schedule had been freed up as the sequel got pushed back a year.

The third installment was scripted by John Hamburg and will be the first in the series not to be directed by Jay Roach.

Robert de Niro and Jane Rosenthal will produce.
