Writer of such films as Constantine and Race to Witch Mountain, Mark Bomback has been hired to adapt the Dark Horse comic The Umbrella Academy for Universal Pictures.

Created by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, the Eisner award-winning 2007 mini-series follows a group of disbanded superheroes who reunite after the death of their adoptive father, Sir Reginald Hargreeves, an alien disguised as a wealthy entrepreneur.

The alien had collected the members of the group shortly after their birth and trained them to save the world. They carry on his plan after he dies.
