On April 9th, 2009

Sad news for Pirates of the Caribbean fans, as trilogy director Gore Verbinski has announced that he will not helm the upcoming fourth installment. This has opened up his schedule for BioShock, the film adaptation of the seminal first-person shooter by 2K Games.

BioShock was a PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 shooter that explored the underwater city of Rapture, a capitalist haven and anarchic wasteland. A sequel is currently in development.

It is not known if Verbinski’s departure will affect the fourth Pirates film.
