Bubble gum comic strip Bazooka Joe is headed to the big screen, as property owner Tornate Co. has hired Mark Hammer to write a screenplay.

The strip stars Joe, who wears an eye patch for unexplained reasons, having child-friendly misadventures. He is joined by various friends like Pesty, Toughie and Hungry Herman, as well as love interest Jane and a dog named Walkie Talkie.

The franchise is part of trading card company Topps’ stable which Tornate’s Michael Eisner purchased back in 2007.
