‘Black Swan’ Comes Back to Life with Portman

natalie-portman-1-v-for-vendetta.jpgDarren Aronofsky’s success with The Wrestler has brought back to life his 2007 project Black Swan, which Hollywood Reporter says could soon be taking flight with a recent rewrite and Natalie Portman attached to play the lead.

Swan is a supernatural thriller set in the world of New York City ballet, focusing on veteran ballerina (Portman) who finds herself locked in a competitive situation with a rival dancer, with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance. But it’s unclear whether the rival is a supernatural apparition or if the protagonist is simply having delusions.

Reports are that the script is a spine-tingler with elements of The Others, the Nicole Kidman stellar performance and box office winner  in which viewers are left to discern what’s real and what’s imagined.

It’s probable that production will start this year if a sale happens imminently because Aronofsky has not committed to a movie that’s ready to go, even though he’s working on the development of Robocop remake at MGM.
