Diane Lane Rides ‘Secretariat’
Disney signed up Diane Lane to star in Secretariat, a true story concerning relationship between the 1973 Triple Crown-winning racehorse and his owner, Penny Chenery.
The film is set to start production in the fall with Randall Wallace directing from a script by Mike Rich.
The true story follows Secretariat as a potential winner before the horse became the first Triple Crown champion in 25 years, Chenery’s rise to become “first lady of racing” was a real underdog story.
Lane will take on the Chenery role as a mother and housewife who knew little about horse racing when she took over her ailing father’s farm in Virginia.
Around the time that Secretariat started to establish his potential as a horse with serious promise Chenery was burden to sell him and everything else after her father died and she was hit with a large inheritance tax.
