The latest District 9 trailer is very tense. The documentary-science fiction style along with sharp cuts and hand held camera work creates the feeling of being nervous and anxious about the film.

The story is about aliens who made first contact with Earth thirty years ago. The aliens became refugees because they were the last survivors of their own world.  The aliens were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa’s District 9 as the world’s nations argued over what to do with the them.

Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United, a private company uninterested in the aliens’ welfare. Once MNU figures out how to make aliens’ complex weaponry to work, the company will make a lot of money. So far, they have failed because activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA.

The tension between the aliens and the humans comes to a head when an MNU field operative, Wikus van der Merwe, contracts a mysterious virus that begins changing his DNA. Wikus quickly becomes the most hunted man and the most valuable man in the world because he is the key to unlocking the secrets of alien technology. There is only one place left for him to hide: District 9. Release date is August 14, 2009.
