Harry Casts a Spell on Box Office

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has cast a spell on movie goers with a magical $21.9 million in its second day of play at the domestic box office for a handsome total of $80.1 million.

On Wednesday Variety sent me an announcement that Half-Blood Prince hit the century mark worldwide with $58.2 million domestically and $45.9 million internationally for a total tally of $104 million.  Harry deserves applause because this is the best start ever for the franchise. It also the best opening day ever for a Wednesday release, as well as the fourth best for any day of the week.

Come Sunday we will see even bigger numbers for Harry and the coming week because domestic numbers suggest Half-Blood Prince is on track to no less than match the $139.7 million five-day opening of the last film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
