SNL skit MacGruber to explode on the big-screen
MacGyver has to be one of the best things to come out from the ‘80s, and similarly, it’s one of the most parodied series today. So popular is the MacGruber skit on Saturday Night Live that it is close to being made as a big-screen movie.
Ryan Phillipe and Val Kilmer are in negotiations to star in the film. Will Forte and Kristen Wiig are reprising their roles from the skits. Creator Jorma Taccone is at the helm of the film.
The original starred Richard Dean Anderson as an extremely resourceful secret agent. The MacGruber sketches, meanwhile, starred Forte as his son, with Wiig as an assistant. They always find themselves, along with the week’s host, in a control room with a ticking bomb about to go off. MacGruber usually gets distracted by personal issues; as a result the bomb explodes.
The film will find the legendary MacGruber retired and living as a monk in Ecuador until he’s enlisted to fight against the evil Cunth, who has a nuclear warhead.
A MacGyver film is also in development.
