Superman Trilogy Director Announced

July 20th, 2009 in Action, Directors -

Comic book writer Mark Millar has revealed in an interview that the director for the upcoming Superman trilogy will be Matthew Vaughn. “I’ve had the plot for an amazing Superman trilogy figured out since I was about ten, so I told him that and he loved it,” Millar said. “When we were in the States, we met up – he’s an American director, and he’s a big, big deal in terms of action movies and so on.”

The pitch for the movie to Warner Bros. is still under wraps, and we don’t know exactly when we’ll be seeing the movie’s debut. Superman Returns’ lackluster performance at the box office is one of the major factors in the decision making process.

“Matthew wanted to cast someone who looked nothing like Christopher Reeve and create a new Superman for this generation. But Superman is still in stasis at the moment because the last one lost so much money and [Warners] are scared to do anything with the character right now. I’m not holding my breath.”

Vaughn is also directing Millar’s “Kick Ass” comic book film adaptation.
