287 Online Review–Freaky If Poorly Explained Fun

On August 14th, 2009

Today we’re talking about 287, another of the long series of short horror films that YouTube has to offer–there really IS an amazing array of them, of all sizes, shapes and qualities, isn’t there? But how did this one fare?  Let’s take a look.

287 is about a young photographer who discovers a recurring symbol drawn onto surfaces all around his neighborhood.  They’re usually found near holes, and when he looks into those holes–be they pipes, vent caps or even holes in walls–he sees visions of horror and torture.  But when he investigates to find the truth behind the symbol, what he finds waiting for him is much worse than anything he’s seen.

For a seven and a half minute movie, you’ll be plenty surprised by this one.  It’s actually pretty solidly put together, and the ending actually manages to come as at least something of a surprise.  Oh, sure, this is no-budget filmmaking at its no-est, and you can forget about anything resembling an explanation for the symbols, but what we have here is still pretty solid, pretty creepy horror.

The Screenhead Ten Scale, therefore, gives it the seven out of ten that is marginal success.
