Dazzling Images from Disney’s Rapunzel

On August 12th, 2009

Disney’s images of Rapunzel are breathtaking. I am stunned and dazzled.  The concept art conveys an enchanting story. I’d love to see the movie right now. Director Glen Keane wanted this to be an animated movie that looked and felt like a traditional hand-drawn Disney Classic in 3D, so he choose the movie’s visual style to be based on the painting “The Swing” by the French Rococo artist Jean-Honoré Fragonard.

The artistic style is actually going to be more like the angular, bold-colored, 50′s Sleeping Beauty, as opposed to Fragonard’s creamy-colored, soft-edges. The decision was made several years ago when Glen Keane left the director’s seat. Either way, I love this concept art!

Yes, I noticed he left the production, but it’s still interesting how he defined the concept of the look. Yes, I can see the 50′s Sleeping Beauty look. All in all it’s quite a production. I can’t wait to see it.
